Newfoundland Growlers News Release

The Newfoundland Growlers extended their winning streak to five games Friday night at Mile One Centre doubling up on the Manchester Monarchs 4-2.

The Growlers got on the board first when Brady Ferguson opened the scoring at 2:35 of the first period, capitalizing off a perfect cross-ice feed from Giorgio Estephan for a power play tally making it a 1-0 game. Spencer Watson tied things up at one with 59 seconds left in the opening frame off a turnover in the Growlers end.

The only offense in the middle frame came off the stick of Nick Moutrey who put the Monarchs up 2-1 for their first lead of the night after going hard to the net and banging in a rebound past Garteig.

The Growlers came out of the gate hungry in the third as Scott Pooley needed just 26 seconds to tie things up when he went bar down evening it up at 2-2. Marcus Power followed that up by bringing the Growlers ahead just under two minutes later finishing off a beautiful three-way passing play with Matt Bradley and J.J Piccinich to make it a 3-2 score.

Scott Pooley roofed his second of the night with 4:10 to go giving the Growlers their first two goal lead of the night for a 4-2 score.

The Monarchs generated some chances late with Chris Driedger pulled along with a power play for a 6-on-4 advantage, but Michael Garteig delivered some clutch saves preserving the two-goal lead for a 4-2 final.
