Growlers Double up Monarchs, 4-2

NEWFOUNDLAND, ST. JOHNS - David Kolomatis becomes all-time franchise leader in points, but the Manchester Monarchs fell, 4-2, to the Newfoundland Growlers, Friday night at the Mile One Centre.

The Monarchs (4-5-1-1) lost to the Growlers (10-5-0-0), by a score of 4-2, despite holding a 2-1 lead entering the third period.

Newfoundland started the scoring at 2:35 of the first period, on the power play, on the ninth goal of the season by Brady Ferguson. Girogio Estephan sent a pass from the top of the right circle, to Ferguson in the left circle, where he wristed a shot over the blocker of Monarchs goaltender, Chris Driedger, to make the score, 1-0.

The Monarchs answered at 19:01 of the first period on the fifth goal of the season by Spencer Watson. Watson intercepted a Newfoundland breakout pass in the high slot, where he flicked a shot past the blocker of Growlers goaltender, Michael Garteig, to even the score, 1-1.

Manchester took the lead at 6:21 of the second period on the fourth goal of the season by Nick Moutrey. David Kolomatis skated into the offensive zone along the right boards and sent a shot towards goal that bounced free to a crashing Moutrey, who pushed the rebound past Garteig, to make the score, 2-1. On the goal, Kolomatis became the Monarchs all-time franchise leader in points, with 200.

The Growlers tied things up at :26 of the third period on the third goal of the season by Scott Pooley. Pooley brought the puck to the bottom of the right circle on a 1-on-1 rush and lifted a shot over the glove of Driedger, to make the score, 2-2.

Just moments later, at 2:13 of the third period, the Growlers regained the lead on the fourth goal of the season by Marcus Power. Newfoundland entered the zone on a 3-on-1, where J.J. Piccinich sent a cross-ice pass to Power, where he one-timed a shot past Driedger, to give the Growlers a 3-2 lead.

Newfoundland extended their lead at 15:50 of the third period on the second goal of the game and fourth of the season for Pooley. Pooley wristed a shot from the top of the right circle, beating Dreidger over the glove, to make the score, 4-2.
