Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Cincinnati, OH - The Cincinnati Cyclones (7-2-2-0) defeated the Indy Fuel, 5-2, on Friday night. Forward Myles Powell led the way with a pair of shorthanded goals, while forwards Pascal Aquin and Justin Vaive, along with defenseman Devante Stephenstallied lone markers for the Cyclones, who have won five of their last six games.
After a scoreless opening period, Cincinnati took a 1-0 lead 1:17 into the second when Aquin took a feed from forward Vas Glotov and beat Fuel netminder Matt Tompkins to put the Cyclones ahead, 1-0.
After an Indy Fuel goal tied the game, 1-1, on a tally from forward Matt Rupert, the Cyclones found some shorthanded magic at the 4:42 mark of the frame, when Glotov sent the puck to Powell following a nice pass from goaltender Jonas Johansson , and Powell beat Tompkins to put the 'Clones back on top, 2-1. Powell was not finished and struck once more on the same shorthanded chance, when Glotov found him again on a 2-on-1, and he tucked the puck in to give Cincinnati a two-goal edge, 3-1.
The offense continued for the Cyclones and struck once more, 6:57 into the period, when forward Jesse Schultz fed Vaive on the back door and he tapped it into the net to give Cincinnati a 4-1 lead. Indy managed to cut their deficit in half before the break, as Rupert netted his second of the game to pull the Fuel to within a pair, 4-2, through 40 minutes.
Cincinnati sealed the game at the 6:44 mark of the third when Stephens took the puck on the left side and turned the corner on traffic, before launching a shot in after getting his own rebound, to lift the 'Clones to a 5-2 victory. The Cyclones outshot the Fuel, 39-28 on the evening, with Johansson stopping 26 in the win.
The two teams conclude their home-and-home on Saturday night in Indianapolis, with the face-off scheduled for 7:35pm ET.
