INDEPENDENCE, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks fell to the Tulsa Oilers, 4-2, Saturday night in front of a sold out crowd of 5,800 people at Independence Events Center. Jeff Christian and Mike Burgoyne each tallied a goal and an assist for Missouri (20-21-4), but the Oilers (22-19-2) were led by Trevor Cann who stopped 37 shots in goal. Jim Henkemeyer had a goal and an assist for Tulsa and Aaron Davis notched two assists as the Oilers swept the Mavericks over the weekend. The win marked the fifth of five games in which the road team has won between the Oilers and Mavericks this season.

Travis Banga put the Oilers up at 9:16 of the first period when took a feed from Henkemeyer on a three-on-two and snapped a shot past Vincent. It proved to be the only goal of the period and the teams were tied in shots at 12 each.

Missouri tied the game early in the second period when Burgoyne took a pass from Christian and slapped it past the stick of Cann. The power play goal was also assisted by Toby Lafrance who now has a goal and an assist in his first two games with Missouri. Tulsa regained the lead for good on T.J. Caig's 20th goal of the season. Caig skated around the Mavericks defense along the right wing, came across the crease and beat Vincent with his backhand. Henkemeyer extended the Oilers lead to 3-1 at the 14:25 mark when he one-timed a Dan Reidel pass into the back of the net. The Oilers held on to the two-goal lead through two periods despite the Mavericks winning the battle in shots at 24-18.

Oilers defenseman Adam Bartholomay made it a 4-1 game at the 4:40 mark of the final period on an assist from Jeff Gumaer. Missouri desperately tried to get back in the game and made it 4-2 on Christian's 24th goal of the season. It was a five-on-three power play goal with the extra attacker and it came with just 2:22 remaining, but that was all the Mavericks could muster.

Missouri didn't allow a power play goal for the fifth straight game killing all three of the Oilers power plays, and finished 2-8 with the man advantage. The Mavericks have now killed a season-high 20 straight penalties. Missouri now two points behind the Oilers for the fifth and final playoff spot with 19 games remaining in the season.

The Mavericks close out their six-game home stand Thursday night when they host the Bossier Shreveport Mudbugs. It's a Thirsty Thursday and fans are encouraged to take advantage of drink specials from 6-7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (866) 443-8849 or visit www.MissouriMavericks.com for more information.
