Amarillo Gorillas News Release

Laredo, TX - The Amarillo Gorillas found their stride in second period, but did not have an answer for Laredo's goaltender, as the Laredo Bucks pushed past Amarillo 4-2 Saturday night.

Laredo found the twine first at the 8:57 mark, as the Bucks swarmed the Amarillo net and defenseman Benjamin Dieude-Fauvel sent a shot from the near circle past Gorillas goalie Tuomas Lohtander. The Bucks scored again with less than three minutes remaining in the period when Jeff Bes pumped home his fourteenth marker on the season. End of one period, Laredo 2 Amarillo 0.

After Laredo's Darryl Smith notched a power-play goal at the 7:33 mark, the Gorillas pushed back with two tallies of their own. Forward David Nimmo took a Jason Chafe pass in tight and smoked it past Laredo netminder Kevin Desfosses. Sixteen seconds later, player/assistant coach Austin Sutter sent his slap shot to the back of the net. Amarillo controlled the remaining minutes of the period and went to the locker with the momentum despite trailing 3-2 after two periods of play.

The Gorillas pumped 14 shots on goal in the third period (43 shots total in the game) but couldn't solve Desfosses. Laredo added an empty net goal with under a minute to go, as Laredo won 4-2.

Andrew Smale was involved in his first fight of the season in the first period...With a second period goal, David Nimmo has gathered at least one point in 11 of his 16 road tilts this season...Austin Sutter's second period goal was his third on the year (all three of Sutter's goals have come away from the Panhandle).

The Gorillas return to the Panhandle tonight to ready themselves for their next home game Friday, February 12th versus the Allen Americans. Tickets are only $10 and the show begins at 7pm CST in the Amarillo Civic Center.
