Odessa Jackalopes News Release


Bonus Hockey: Odessa leads the CHL in overtime and shootout games played this season with 14 combined. The Jackalopes are 10-4 this season after regulation.

Winning Response: The Jackalopes have lost consecutive games just once this season. A loss to Laredo on December 5th and a shootout loss to Colorado on December 12th.

Thinel Approaching CHL Record Books: Sebastien Thinel is two goals away (190) from cracking the CHL's Top 25 Career Goals Leaders and is 22nd in league history with 497 career points.

Chasing Franchise History: Odessa's 2001-2002 team recorded the best record in franchise history of 47-11-6. This year's squad is four wins ahead of that pace. The 2001-2002 team was 31-10-5 through 46 games.

Hat Tricks This Season: Jeff Pierce scored the first hat trick of the season for the Jackalopes at Amarillo on October 23rd. Kenny Bernard netted one on December 13th at Amarillo. Mike Ramsay recorded one on January 27th at Rio Grande Valley. Odessa has won every game where they've scored a hat trick.

One-Man Band Heroics: Four different times this year, an Odessa Jackalopes player has scored the game-tying and shootout-winning goals in the same game. Collin Circelli did it twice against Corpus Christi on October 16th and at Laredo on November 20th. Brian Swiniarski did it on December 4th vs. Laredo. Mike Ramsay was the hero on January 27th at Rio Grande Valley.

Power Play Streak: From October 20th to November 29th this season the Odessa Jackalopes scored a power play goal in 17 straight games.

Martin Highlights CHL All-Star Game: Goaltender, Joel Martin, was named the CHL All-Star Team's MVP during the All-Star Game after stopping 27 of 28 shots in the first period of the game. He is the first All-Star Game MVP in franchise history. The South Texas All-Stars won the game 9-4.

Odessa Jackalopes All Time Record: The Jacks are 431-313-85 through 829 regular season games played as a franchise.

GAME PREVIEW:

Last Game - Odessa Jackalopes and Colorado Eagles: Odessa's Mike Ramsay and Colorado's Jim Jackson each had two goals, but Steve Haddon's was the game-winner for Colorado as they topped Odessa, 5-3, on Friday night. Mike Mole made 40 saves for the Eagles. Joel Martin stopped 35 for Odessa.

The Last 10: The Odessa Jackalopes are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games while the Colorado Eagles are 6-2-2.

All-Time Series: In 13 meetings all-time the Jackalopes are 2-9-2 against Colorado.

Players to Watch: Odessa's Mike Ramsay has nine goals in his last six games and 11 points over that span. Riley Nelson had a goal and two assists in Friday's game against Odessa for Colorado.

Thinel Heating Up: Along with Mike Ramsay, Sebastien Thinel is heating up in the second half of the season. The Jackalopes forward is on a five-game point streak and has 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) in his last eight games.

Beating the Best: This season the Jackalopes are 10-5-2 against teams with records above.500, while Colorado is 13-7-3.

MVP Showcase: Odessa's Sebastien Thinel is the reigning CHL MVP with 57 points this season, tied for fourth in the league. Colorado's Kevin Ulanski is the front runner for this year's MVP award leading the league with 71 points overall.

Top Scoring Defensemen on Hand: Colorado's Aaron Schneekloth (40 points) and Odessa's Alex Dunn (37 points) are the top two scoring defensemen in the CHL. Both were starters in the CHL All-Star Game on January 13th.

No Easy Finish: With 18 games left in the regular season for Odessa, 11 of those games are against teams with a.500 record or better. 17 of the games are against teams within two points of a playoff spot or better.

One-Goal Wonders: Odessa's win on Tuesday snapped a five-game streak of one-goal games for the team. The Jackalopes lead the CHL with the most one-goal games this season at 25. Odessa is 17-4-4 in one-goal games.

It's a battle between two of the CHL's top teams as the Jackalopes and Eagles meet for the third time this season. Colorado won the first meeting with a 2-1 shootout win on December 12th in Colorado and against Friday night, 5-3 in Odessa. Tonight's game is the third of four meetings this season between the two teams. Colorado leads the league averaging 4.35 goals per game. Odessa is second averaging 4.13.
