Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Jordan Cameron scored with just 14 seconds left in regulation to break a 2-2 tie and help the Texas Brahmas to a 3-2 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center. The âBugs had never trailed in the game before Cameron's late goal put Texas on top to stay.
Bossier-Shreveport outshot Texas 40-32 in the contest, but scored only once on ten powerplay chances in their second straight loss. Justin Aikins and Dave Pszenyczny scored the Mudbugs' goals and John DeCaro stopped 29 shots.
The Mudbugs jumped out to a 15-7 shot advantage and held a 1-0 lead after the first period. David Rutherford made a nifty play in the high slot to get a weak side pass to Justin Aikins, who fired in a powerplay goal at 13:46 to put the âBugs on top.
Texas evened the score at one in the second period when Tyler Skworchinski beat DeCaro on a shorthanded breakaway at 3:50. The Mudbugs had four powerplays in the middle frame, but couldn't go back on top and the game stayed 1-1 into the third.
The âBugs then re-took the lead with a 4-on-4 goal when Shawn Limpright fed Dave Pszenyczny, who sent a shot past Jaeger from the slot to make it 2-1. The Brahmas tied it again with a powerplay goal from Justin Kinnunen at 7:37. Despite two more powerplays after that, the Mudbugs couldn't beat Jaeger again. The game appeared headed to overtime when Cameron skated into the Mudbugs zone and ripped a quick shot past the defenseman and into the top corner with only 14 seconds left.
Brett Jaeger turned in a 38-save performance in goal for Texas, who scored once in six powerplay chances and added the shorthanded tally.
The Mudbugs will now venture out on a three-game road swing before returning home to face Corpus Christi on Valentine's Day at 4:05 pm at the CenturyTel Center.
The road trip will start with an important Northern Conference battle against the Mississippi RiverKings on Tuesday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 pm with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 on AM 1130 KWKH. The game will also be shown live online on CHL TV.
