Matt Anholt Named to Hockey Canada U17 Staff

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club is proud to announce that Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager Matt Anholt has been named as an Assistant Coach for Hockey Canada for the 2023 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Anholt, 29, will serve as an Assistant Coach for Team Canada Red at the tournament. He is currently in his sixth season in a coaching capacity with the Hurricanes. The Prince Albert, SK, product is in his third season in the role of Assistant Coach and Assistant General Manager. Prior to that, Anholt served three seasons as a Skills and Development Coach.
In his playing career, Anholt spent four seasons at the University of Alaska-Anchorage where he served as Captain for his final two years. In parts of four seasons, he appeared in 103 regular season games totaling 53 points (14g-29a) along with 62 penalty minutes. He played junior with the West Kelowna Warriors of the British Columbia Hockey League for two seasons from 2012 to 2014 after playing his U18 hockey with the Prince Albert Mintos of the Saskatchewan AAA Hockey League.
It is the second consecutive year a Hurricanes Assistant Coach had represented Canada at the Under-17 level after Ryan Aasman served as a Video Coach for Canada Red at the 2022 tournament in Langley and Delta, British Columbia. The 2023 World Under-23 Hockey Challenge will take place in Charlottetown and Summerside, Prince Edward Island from November 2nd until November 11th.
The Hurricanes return to the ENMAX Centre on Friday, October 6th when they welcome the Moose Jaw Warriors at 7:00pm in the first of a three-game weekend. Tickets for the game can be purchased by visiting the ENMAX Centre Ticket Centre, by calling 403-329-SEAT (7328) or online at www.enmaxcentre.ca.
