Mastroianni Sacrifice Fly in 11th Lifts Fisher Cats Past Harrisburg

Harrisburg, PA- Darin Mastroianni's sacrifice fly in the top of the 11th inning scored Jonathan Diaz with the winning run as the Fisher Cats edged the Harrisburg Senators 5-4 on Thursday night at Metro Bank Park.

In the decisive frame, Diaz (2-for-5, 2B, R) drilled a double off losing pitcher Rafael Martin (2-1)to start the inning and Brian Jeroloman (2-for-4) followed with a single. Mastroianni then lifted a fly to right and Edgardo Baez' throw to the plate was strong, but Diaz slid past with the winning run.

Tim Collins worked a perfect bottom of the 11th inning to earn his fifth save, striking out Ofilio Castro to finish the game, and give New Hampshire a series victory for the first time ever in Harrisburg.

The Fisher Cats (44-29) opened the scoring in the top of the first inning. Mastroianni walked and Manny Mayorson (3-for-5) followed with a single, moving Mastroianni to third. Eric Thames grounded into a fielders choice as Mastroianni scored to make it 1-0.

Harrisburg (34-39) answered in the bottom of the first on consecutive singles by Danny Espinosa and Marvin Lowrance and a sacrifice fly by Chris Marrero to tie the game at 1-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, Mastroianni again led off with a walk and Mayorson followed with a double down the third base line. Mastroianni scored on a single by Shawn Bowman to make it 2-1. After Adam Loewen grounded into a fielders choice, David Cooper singled home Bowman and Loewen to put the Fisher Cats up 4-1.

The Senators answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Edgardo Baez, went to third on a double by Jhonatan Solano and scored on a ground out by Brad Coon to make it 4-2.

Bobby Bell worked the first five innings for the Fisher Cats, allowing five hits and two runs. He did not walk any batters and struck out one. Danny Farquhar threw three shutout innings in relief.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Harrisburg's Jesus Valdez singled off Trystan Magnuson and Michael Martinez followed with his 6th homer to tie the game at 4-4. Magnuson (2-0) stayed on to retire the Senators in order in the 10th to earn the victory.

New Hampshire continues the road trip on Friday at 7:05pm in Trenton. Right-hander Zach Stewart ( 4-2, 4.50) will get the start for the Fisher Cats against the Thunder. Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.

The Fisher Cats open a three-game series against the Reading Phillies at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Monday, June 28, with a 7:05pm game. Also on Monday, NBA star and Concord, NH, native Matt Bonner will be in attendance at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. The San Antonio Spurs forward will sign autographs for fans in the Samuel Adams Bar & Grill from 5:15pm-6:00pm and will throw a ceremonial first pitch before the game. Bonner, 30, averaged 7.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game during the 2009-10 season.
