Trenton Thunder News Release
Trenton, NJ - Graham Stoneburner's six innings of one-run ball and a Thunder offensive season-high eight runs and eleven hits led the Trenton Thunder (3-5) Friday night to an 8-1 victory over the Harrisburg Senators (3-5) in front of 5,549 fans at Waterfront Park. It was an ideal combination for Trenton as Stoneburner allowed just four hits on the mound and five Thunder players had multi-hit nights at the plate.
Trenton would strike first in the ballgame, bringing home a season-high four runs in the bottom of the second. After Cody Johnson singled and Corban Joseph walked, Addison Maruszak would line a 2-0 pitch off the base of the left field wall, scoring both Johnson and Joseph. Two batters later, Austin Krum would single home Maruszak and Ray Kruml to extend Trenton's lead to 4-0.
Thanks to Austin Romine and Johnson, the Thunder would once again extend their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Romine would bring in Kruml and Krum on a looping double down the right field line. Later in the inning, Johnson lined a single up-the-middle scoring Romine for his team-leading sixth RBI of the year.
Stoneburner, the former Clemson Tiger, was dominant once again for the Thunder, making it back-to-back effective starts to begin the 2011 season. The righty worked around lead-off doubles surrendered in the first two frames and only allowed two more singles the rest of the way. The lone Senator run would score on a sacrifice fly.
The Thunder will send RHP Craig Heyer (1-0, 1.35) to the mound Saturday for game three of the four-game set. Heyer will oppose Senator hurler RHP Luis Atilano (0-0, 3.60). Tune-in to the game on 91.3 WTSR-FM and on trentonthunder.com. The SBLI Pre-Game Show with Jay Burnham and Hank Fuerst begins at 4:45 PM on the Trenton Thunder Radio Network.
The first 1,000 fans ages 5-15 to Saturday's game will receive 2010 Eastern League M.V.P. Mini Bats. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 PM for game three of this seven-game homestand. Contact the Thunder box office at 609-394-3300 or log-on to trentonthunder.com for ticket information.
