MOOSE GET RIGHT BACK INTO ACTION POST ALL-STAR

The Moose kicked off a six game home stretch after wrapping up the AHL All-Star break. This marks Manitoba's second longest home stand of the season and the final time they will play more than four games in a row at the MTS Centre the rest of the season. They welcomed the AHL's top ranked team in the Toronto Marlies to kick off the home stand this past weekend.

Thursday, Feb. 4, 2016: Manitoba 2 vs. Toronto 6

The Moose played hard for two periods against the Marlies but in the second period the Marlies scored four unanswered goals. The deficit was too much for the Moose to overcome in the series opener. Manitoba tried hard in the third period to get back in and had goals from Nic Petan and Jiri Fronk but it was too little too late. Eric Comrie and Jussi Olkinuora split the goaltending duties. The former third round selection of the Winnipeg Jets recorded a career high five points (1G, 4A) in a big 6-5 overtime win. It was the eighth five-point game in Moose franchise history and first since Mason Raymond had three goals and two assists on Nov. 21, 2007.

CHASING GOALS:

Rookie forward Chase De Leo had his third multi-goal game on Saturday scoring twice in Manitoba's 6-5 overtime win over the Marlies. De Leo continues to lead the Moose in scoring this season with 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points. De Leo is tied for 18th among AHL rookies in scoring while also leading all rookies in shots on goal with 119.

OVERTIME HERO:

Forward Nic Petan had the big game deciding goal in overtime against the Marlies on Saturday afternoon. The goal was Petan's second in as many games and added to his stretch where he has recorded at least one point in six of his last seven games with three goals and four assists during that time. Petan has already recorded three multi-point games in his rookie season in the AHL which didn't start until Nov. 20 after playing 14 games up with the Winnipeg Jets to start the year. The native of Delta, BC leads all Moose players with an average of .73 points-per-game.

CENTURY MARK FOR KICHTON:

Defenceman Brenden Kichton recorded his 100th career AHL point with an assist on Austen Brassard's goal on Saturday. Kichton has been among the leaders in scoring on the Moose this season with four goals and 19 assists for 23 points which currently puts him second on the team and first among defenceman. CAREER YEAR:

Now in his third AHL season, forward Austen Brassard is having a breakout campaign. He scored his ninth goal of the season on Saturday (already a career high) which put him at 19 points in 44 games this season, which gives him a new career high in points. Seven of Brassard's goals this season have come at even strength which ties him with Chase De Leo and Scott Kosmachuk for the team lead in that category. Brassard has also hit the nine goal plateau by hitting on his chances. His shooting percentage of 23.7 is among the league's best.
