Mancini Named Orioles Minor League Player of Month

FREDERICK, Md. -The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that former Keys first baseman, Trey Mancini, has been named the Orioles Minor League "Player of the Month" for May. He becomes the second Keys player to earn an organizational player of the month honor in 2015, joining Drew Dosch, who received the same award in April.

Promoted to the Double-A Bowie Baysox on Thursday afternoon, Mancini led all Carolina League hitters with a .362 average and to go along with five home runs, 19 RBIs and eight doubles during the season's second month. The former Notre Dame standout also paced the league in slugging percentage (.578) and OPS (.981) and racked up 14 multi-hit games in May.

Prior to his call-up to the Baysox, Mancini batted .314 over 52 games with eight home runs, 32 RBIs, 14 doubles and 28 runs scored with the Keys. At the time of his promotion he led the league in hits (65), extra-base hits (25), total bases (109), slugging percentage (.527), games played (52) and at-bats (207). Mancini was also second in batting average, tied for second in home runs and RBIs and fifth in doubles.

Mancini split the 2014 season between Frederick and Low-A Delmarva. Promoted to the Keys at the All-Star break, he hit a combined .284 between the two stops with 10 home runs 83 RBIs three triples and 32 doubles. Prior to being called up to Advanced-A, Mancini was selected to the South Atlantic League all-star team, while in his first professional season he was named the Topps Minor League "Player of the Year" for the New York Penn League after setting franchise records for batting average (.389) and hits (84).

Rated the No. 30 prospect in the Orioles system according to Baseball America, Mancini was selected by Baltimore in the eighth round of the 2013 draft out of Notre Dame. In his final year with the Irish he led the Big East with a .389 batting average and paced the league with 138 total bases.

Frederick continues its four-game series with the Wilmington Blue Rocks on Friday night at Frawley Stadium. Lefty Luis Gonzalez (3-4, 8.79) makes the start for Frederick and will be opposed by right-hander Jakob Junis (2-4, 4.05).
