LYNCHBURG, Va. (June 5, 2015) - Three Lynchburg hurlers limited Winston-Salem to just an unearned run on three hits in the Hillcats' 3-1 triumph in the back end of Friday's doubleheader at City Stadium.
Thus, the Dash (22-31) dropped both games in the twin bill, the club's first action since Tuesday's suspended game. Wednesday marked a league-wide off day, and Thursday's game was postponed due to rain in the Lynchburg area.
Winston did notch the game's first run thanks to a Chris Jacobs RBI double. However, the Dash would only muster two hits the rest of the contest. Spot-starter Antonio Romero (1-0) had given up six runs in his previous three outings spanning four and two-thirds innings, but he befuddled the Dash over five innings.
Out of the bullpen, Delvy Francisco stranded a pair in the sixth, and J.B. Feyereisen blazed through a perfect seventh for his first High-A save.
Lynchburg (25-29) immediately responded to Winston-Salem's tally in the opening frame. The first four Hillcats reached against Dash starter Brian Clark (1-2). Clint Frazier plated their first run on a double, and he later scored on a double play.
After that first frame, Clark posted consecutive perfect innings, and he punched out the side in order in the third. Andre Wheeler gave up a run in his two frames, and Zach Isler logged a 1-2-3 sixth in his first appearance with the Dash since May 25.
Winston-Salem dropped to 2-6 in doubleheader games. The Dash also fell to 11-19 through their first 30 road games. Within the Carolina League, Winston is tied with Frederick for the most road contests thus far this season.
This four-game series rolls along Saturday at 6:30 p.m. from Calvin Falwell Field. Winston-Salem sends James Dykstra (3-2, 2.70 ERA) to the bump, while Lynchburg counters with fellow righty Michael Peoples (3-3, 7.34 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 6:15 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn App.
The Dash will finish the first half with 11 home games in the final 14 days before the All-Star break. The club returns to BB&T Ballpark this Monday for the first of four with the Wilmington Blue Rocks (Kansas City Royals). For your Dash tickets, call (336) 714-2287 or visit wsdash.com.
