Quad City Mallards News Release
Moline, IL-The Mallards finished the first quarter of their 2005-06 schedule on Sunday in Rockford. The team finished the first 19 games with a 9-7-3 mark after suffering a 5-3 loss to the Hogs. Quad City began the week with a 5-1 loss at home to Muskegon but rebounded to earn a shootout point in a 5-4 shootout loss in Fort Wayne. On Saturday, the team beat Missouri 2-0 in Jason Tapp's first shutout of the year. The team finished the week with a Sunday afternoon loss in Rockford.
This week, the Mallards continue their nine-game road trip with a pair in Missouri on Friday and Saturday. Quad City is 2-0-0 this year vs. the Otters with both wins coming at The MARK.

Wednesday, November 23rd -Muskegon 5 at Mallards 1
The Mallards dropped a 5-1 decision to Muskegon on Wednesday night at The MARK. Fury sniper Robin Bouchard scored a pair in the victory. The Fury took a 1-0 lead on a power play with Bouchard's first of the night with 2:30 left in the opening period. Muskegon carried that lead into the intermission before Evgeny Lazarev tied the game early in the second period. Lazarev's power-play goal was his seventh of the season. Patrick Nadeau earned an assist on the goal to extend his scoring streak to six games. Tom Galvin recorded the other helper. The Fury took control of the game with a pair of goals less than a minute after Lazarev's goal. Ryan Keller and Rustyn Dolyny scored 31 seconds apart to give Muskegon a 3-1 cushion. Bouchard added his second late in the middle period, and Jeff Nelson scored his 10th of the season for the only goal of the third period to secure the Fury win 5-1.
Thursday, November 24th-Mallards 4 at Fort Wayne 5-Shootout
A high-scoring Holiday affair ended with the Mallards losing 5-4 in a shootout on Thursday in Fort Wayne. In the first period, the teams traded even strength goals. Fort Wayne's Jonathan Goodwin opened the scoring when he recorded his fifth of the season 15:05 into the game. The Mallards responded with a marker just 32 seconds later. Noah Whyte streaked through the neutral zone before beating Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre for his second goal of the year. In the middle period, the Komets retook the lead just 1:15 into the frame. Guy Dupuis threaded a point shot through traffic for his third goal of the year. After trailing for much of the second, the Mallards evened the score with 3:33 left in period. Whyte sprung Anthony Blumer on a breakaway, and the Mallards rookie scored his eighth goal of the year to even the game at two. A back and forth third period began with P.C. Drouin scoring a shorthanded goal to give Fort Wayne a 3-2 lead. On the same power play, the Mallards answered back to retake the lead. Chad Woollard scored his ninth power-play goal of the season to tie the game at three. The Mallards took the lead for the first time on another power-play goal just 1:20 later. Evgeny Lazarev scored for the eighth time this year to put the Mallards in front 4-3. With just 2:30 left to play, the Komets' Colin Chaulk scored on the power play to set the regulation final at 4-4. Typical of the hotly contested affair, the shootout required extra frames. After five rounds, each team had three goals with Glenn Detulleo, Noah Whyte and Chad Woollard recording the Mallards markers. In the seventh round, Fort Wayne's Kevin St. Pierre denied Evgeny Lazarev before Mark Smith beat Jason Tapp to secure the win for the Komets.
Saturday, November 26th-Missouri 0 at Mallards 2
The Quad City Mallards improved to 9-6-2 on the season with a 2-0 win on Saturday night vs. Missouri at The MARK. Jason Tapp made 23 saves in earning his first shutout of the year while Evgeny Lazarev and Patrick Nadeau scored in the win. With the win, the Mallards snapped a four-game winless streak. After a scoreless first, Lazarev recorded his ninth goal of the year to give the Mallards a 1-0 lead. Just 1:27 into the third period, Nadeau scored his fifth goal of the year to set the final at 2-0.
Sunday, November 27th-Mallards 3 at Rockford 5
A third period comeback came up short on Sunday in Rockford as the Mallards lost 5-3 to the Hogs. Evgeny Lazarev scored in the first and Patrick Nadeau and Matt Radoslovich recorded third period tallies in the loss. In the first, the Mallards jumped out to a 1-0 lead just 2:20 into the game. Evgeny Lazarev scored the Mallards goal, his tenth of the season, on a power play. In the last eight Mallards games, Lazarev has seven goals and four assists for 11 points. Following Lazarev's goal, the Hogs stormed back for three consecutive markers to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. Jason Notermann recorded a power-play tally followed by a pair of Olivier Proulx goals (one shorthanded and one during a 4-on-4). In the second, the teams skated scoreless for 18:09 before Yannick Tifu scored to give the Hogs a 4-1 lead. Tifu's goal was his fifth of the year and combined with his pair of first period assists to give the Rockford forward a three point night. A fierce Mallards comeback in the third pulled Quad City to within a single marker in the game's final minutes. Patrick Nadeau scored for the second consecutive night and the sixth time this year at 10:42 of the third. Matt Radoslovich recorded his sixth tally of the year on a power-play breakaway with 4:37 to play. A late 5-on-3 power play for the Mallards was negated by a goaltender interference call against Nadeau, and Rockford's Greg Barber scored into an empty net with 13 seconds left to end the Mallards comeback hopes.
Player of the Week
Evgeny Lazarev is the Mallards nominee for the UHL Player of the Week. He recorded goals in all four Mallards games this week. On Sunday in Rockford, Lazarev had a pair of assists to go with his tenth goal of the season. On the week, the Mallards forward had four goals and two assists for six points in four games.
Goalie of the Week
Jason Tapp is the Mallards nominee for UHL Goaltender of the Week. He recorded his first shutout of the year on Saturday night vs. Missouri. On the week, the Kelowna, British Columbia native went 1-2-1 with a 3.26 goals against average and a .893 save percentage.
