Danbury Trashers News Release
DANBURY, CT-The United Hockey League (UHL) announced on Monday that Danbury Trashers goaltender Sylvain Daigle was named the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending on November 27, 2005. Daigle becomes the first Danbury player this season to be noted with a weekly award from the United Hockey League.
Daigle finished the week with a perfect 2-0-0 record, a 1.00 goals against average and a .963 save percentage as he scored near shutouts in wins over Richmond and Adirondack. On Friday November 25th, Daigle recorded a 21-save performance in a 3-1 win over the RiverDogs. The lone goal allowed was in the final minute of play as Richmond had a three-man advantage on a power play.
The following night Daigle stopped 32 shots in a 5-1 win over the Adirondack Frostbite, allowing their lone goal with less than two minutes remaining in the game. The 29-year-old native of St. Hyacinthe, Quebec is currently 7-5-1 this season and is 5th in the league in minutes played (752:45). He has started all but three games this season for Danbury.
The Trashers also completed a trade with the Quad City Mallards as they acquired the rights to defenseman Troy Smith in exchange for future considerations. Smith, 27, spent last season between the Mallards and Louisiana (ECHL). He finished with a combined 12 points on eight goals in 75 games. The 6-1, 200lb native of Hamilton, Ontario spent five seasons at St. Francis Xavier University and four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) before turning pro.
