Kevin Kerr's Jersey Retired
Kevin Kerr's Jersey was retired in front of 2,014 fans on Friday November 25th. On Hand were Commissioner Richard Brosal and Brian Werger from the league office as well as Bob Perani, Bobby Reynolds and Dr. Shukairy. Kerr made a poignant speech prior to the hoisting of his jersey.
Fans were on their feet for the whole presentation. Kerr is only the fifth player in Generals history to receive this honor, joining Bob Perani's #1, Brett MacDonald's #77, Doug Manchek's #16 and Stephan Brochu's #5 Joining Kevin on the Ice to share in this moment were his wife and children.
Game Summaries
November 23rd Flint Generals 2 - Kalamazoo 5 - Kalamazoo was held up briefly by some poor weather on Route 69 on its way to Flint yet remained in first place in the Central Division after a 5-2 victory at Perani Arena & Event Center. Kalamazoo got on the board first when Jason Deitsch scoring midway through the opening period and the Generals countered with a goal by Chad Cavanagh at 15:25. Lucas Drake scored a power play goal for Kalamazoo just 1:45 into the period and Flint's Fabien Laniel answered with a power play goal at 3:01. The score remained 2-2 for most of the second until a late onslaught by Kalamazoo had Flint net minder Jason Saal making numerous saves on a 5-3 power play for Kalamazoo. Eventually, Kory Karlander extended his point scoring streak to six games when he put one past Saal with 12 seconds remaining in the period making the score 3-2 in favor of Kalamazoo. Flint outshot Kalamazoo 18-14 in the second period, the most shots given up by Kalamazoo in a period this season. The final score was 5-2 Kalamazoo.
November 25th 2005 Flint Generals 4 - Motor City 3
Peter Brady made 29 saves as the Generals defeated Motor City 4-3 Friday night.
Motor City scored the first goal of the game but Flint quickly responded with a goal by newcomer Robin Richards to even the game at 1-1. Flint took a 2-1 lead into the second period on a goal by Sean Starke late in the first period. Most of the second period remained scoreless until Flint's Jason Selleke capitalized on a 5-3 man advantage giving the Generals a 3-1 lead going into the third period. The Mechanics cut the lead to 3-2 midway through the final period but Flint's Terry Marchant answered with a goal with less than five minutes remaining to give the Generals a 4-2 lead. The final score was 4-3 Generals as Motor City scored a late goal.
November 26th 2005 Flint Generals 1 - Fort Wayne 0
In a stellar performance Jason Saal of the Flint Generals shut out the Fort Wayne Komets. Saal stopped all 32 shots he faced from the Komets. The only Goal of the contest was scored by Matt Elich with an assist from Leo Thomas. The Goal came at the 4:27 mark of the third period in what turned out to be a strong defensive game for both the Generals and Fort Wayne. There were 19 penalties called in the match for a total of 44 penalty minutes. This was Saal's first shut out of the season.
November 27th 2005 Flint Generals 1 - Kalamazoo 3
The Generals returned to .500 after division rivals Kalamazoo won 3-1 Sunday. The Wings took a 2-0 lead into the third period when Flint's offense cut the lead in half with a goal by Leo Thomas unassisted at 2:59 of the period. The final Goal of the game came at 18:39 of the third period with a shot from Ruff assisted by Labenski and Manley giving Kalamazoo the edge in the contest. Jason Saal made 39 saves in the match.
