Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Tulsa Oilers 4-2 at the INTRUST Bank Arena on Saturday night.
Chris Falloon broke a 2-2 tie at the 8:06 mark in the third period. Daniel Tetrault's shot from just outside the crease created a rebound at the bottom of the slot that Falloon banged in for the eventual game-winner. Aaron Davis put the game away with an empty net goal with just under nine seconds left in the game.
The Oilers slowly overcame an early 2-0 deficit that the Thunder built in the first period. Gordon Bell trimmed Wichita's lead to 2-1 with a shorthanded goal at 13:32 in the second. Bell finished off an Oilers' odd-man rush that started with a loose puck along their own blue line. Michel Beausolei knocked in a loose puck past the left of Marty Magers at 6:05 in the third to tie the game.
A.J. Gale gave the Thunder a 1-0 lead at 7:48 in the first. Troy Schwab battled for a loose puck behind Tulsa's net, setting up Gale's close-range backhander over the shoulder of Oilers' goaltender Tyler Sims. Steven Kaunisto made it 2-0 at 11:20 in the first on a long shot above the right faceoff circle. Kaunisto finished the night with two points and is +5 over the last two games.
Magers piloted the win, Wichita's second straight, saving 26 of 28. Magers is 53 of 50 over the last two games. Sims absorbed the loss, saving 14 of 17. The Thunder was 0 for 4 on the power play while going 6 for 6 in penalty kill chances.
The Thunder plays at Tulsa on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. All the action can be heard locally at 1550 KKLE and 93.5 KWME, and worldwide at www.kleyam.com The Thunder returns home on Friday, November 5th when they host the Arizona Sundogs.
