Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO - John DeCaro made 27 saves in his first start of the season and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs scored twice in the third period to edge the Missouri Mavericks 2-1 Saturday night at the Independence Events Center. The win puts the Mudbugs at 7-2-0 for the season and keeps them unbeaten on the road this year at 4-0.

After the ‘Bugs were shut out for over 50 minutes in the game, Jeff Kyrzakos and Shawn Limpright scored less than three minutes apart to erase a 1-0 Missouri lead. DeCaro stopped all 19 shots he faced over the final two periods to win in his first action since being injured in Game 2 of last year's Northern Conference Semifinals.

Rob Nolan made a few tough saves in the first period to keep the Mudbugs off the scoreboard, most notably during a 5-on-3 powerplay advantage on which the ‘Bugs had numerous quality chances. Missouri then took a 1-0 lead on a powerplay of its own as Dominic D'Amour's long wrist shot snuck into the top corner past DeCaro. Both teams had exactly nine shots apiece in both of the first two periods as the Mavericks took a 1-0 lead into the third frame.

Over halfway through the third period, Simon Mangos fed a pass into the slot for Kyrzakos, who finally beat Nolan to the glove side for his fourth goal of the year on the powerplay. Limpright then skated into the zone and beat a Missouri defender wide before cutting to the front and sending a shot over Nolan's right shoulder to put Bossier-Shreveport ahead to stay. DeCaro made a number of big saves late in the third with the Mavericks on the powerplay to maintain the lead and close out the win.

Rob Nolan drops to 0-1-1 despite a 25-save effort as Missouri outshot the Mudbugs 28-27. The ‘Bugs finished 1 for 5 on the powerplay, while the Mavs were 1 for 4.

After playing nine games in the past 16 days, the Mudbugs will now have their first rest of the season with five days off before they take the ice again Friday night in Mississippi against the RiverKings. The ‘Bugs next home game, which is also "Autism Awareness Night" is set for next Saturday versus the Allen Americans at 7:05 pm.
