PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - On a night reserved for former player and current assistant coach Chris Bartolone, the visiting Texas Brahmas played spoiler, topping the host Sundogs 5-3 Friday night at Tim's Toyota Center in Prescott Valley on the strength of a three-goal third period.

Arizona honored former player and current assistant coach Chris Bartolone by retiring the former captain's No. 29 jersey in a pregame ceremony.

Texas skated away with the win despite Jason Williams' two power-play goals and timely saves throughout the night by goaltender Doug Groenestege.

Williams picked up goals three and four on the year from below the near faceoff circle, the first on a cross-ice feed from defenseman Tyler Butler in the first period and the second on a Butler shot from the point that missed the net wide in the third period (click for video).

Groenestege's biggest saves of the game came in the final frame. The netminder stretched a left leg pad to the post to deny Texas a go-ahead marker midway through the period and made several saves through traffic during a 1:36 two-man advantage in the second half of the third.

Chad Woollard struck first for Texas with his second goal of the season 7:20 into the contest, firing a slap shot under the arm of Groenestege from the top of the far circle for a 1-0 lead.

Williams netted his sixth point of the year just over six minutes later to even the game at one, converting on a tic-tac-toe play with defensemen partners Butler and Billy Bezeau.

Skating 5-on-4 after the Brahmas' Alex Curran was whistled for cross checking, Bezeau sent a pass along the blue line to Butler who looked for a shot before sending a cross-ice feed to Williams at the near faceoff dot.

Mark Kolanos was credited with his fourth tally of the year midway through the second period to give Arizona a 2-1 lead after referee Ryan Hersey ruled the puck crossed the goal line after discussions with linesmen Ken Bonham and Michael Sarter.

Kevin Beech made the initial save at the top of the crease but the puck trickled behind the netminder and a pileup obstructed clear view of the resulting goal.

Matt Pierce pulled his club even at two with 37 seconds remaining in the second period, banging home a rebound from the between the circles after a Calin Wild shot bounced its way through traffic.

Brahmas leading goal scorer Greg Hogeboom converted on a penalty shot at the third period's 6:23 mark, tying the game at three with a delayed forehand shot over Groenestege and Mick Lawrence collected the eventual game-winner with 4:04 to play, sending a backhand effort past Groenestege from the slot.

Wild added an empty net tally with 1:21 remaining in the contest.

Groenestege finished with 38 saves on 42 shots while Beech earned his first win of the season with 41 saves on 44 shots.

The Sundogs held the Brahmas scoreless on eight power play opportunities and converted twice on seven man advantage chances in the loss.

Arizona (2-3-0) and Texas (2-2-1) face off again tomorrow night at 7:05pm. Tickets start at just $12 and are available by phone at 1-866-4-GET-TIX (1-866-443-8849), online at www.GetTix.net and in person at the Tim's Toyota Center Box Office.
