Mississippi RiverKings News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO --- In a contest punctuated by nearly 300 minutes of penalty time, much of which meted out in the game's final two minutes, the Mississippi RiverKings prevailed 5-2 over the Missouri Mavericks on Friday, October 29th at the Independence Events Center.

Mississippi won its second straight contest against the Mavericks, which lost for the first time at home this year.

Louis Dumont scored the first goal for the RiverKings, Russ Smith tallied a power play goal with eleven seconds remaining in the first period. Matt Summers scored the eventual game-winning goal mid-way through the second, Nathan Lutz scored on a penalty shot for the RiverKings five goals scored and Derek Landmesser finished the night with an empty net goal.

Missouri could only muster goals from Olivier Filion and Mike Berry for its two counters.

Several melees marred the action in the final minutes with each team down to a handful of players for the last 38 seconds of the game.

Kyle McNulty (1-1-0) earned the victory in goal for the RiverKings, stopping 21 of 23 shots on goal. Gerry Festa (2-1-0) took the loss for the Mavericks with a 25-save, four-goal effort.

Mississippi was charged with 144 penalty minutes and Missouri was tagged with 149.

The RiverKings next host Rio Grande Valley Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. Game time is at 7:05 PM and will be Assists for Autism night.
