The East jumped on the board first with a goal by Hershey Bears right wing Andrew Gordon just 16 seconds into the first period marking an AHL All-Star Classic record for fastest goal scored from the start of the game. The Eastern Conference opened the scoring halfway through the second period with a goal by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton defenseman Robert Bortuzzo at the 10:13 mark. Just over a minute later Connecticut Whale forward Jeremy Williams scored to give the East a 6-4 advantage and the West just couldn't recover. The West went on to score two goals in the second but the East matched their tallies bringing the score to 8-6 at the end of the middle frame.
