Augusta Lynx News Release

Augusta, GA - The Augusta Lynx have a packed weekend of hockey on tap as they continue to battle for playoff position in the ECHL's South Division, facing the South Carolina Stingrays, Charlotte Checkers, and Pensacola Ice Pilots in a three-day span.

South Carolina sits in fourth place in the South Division with 75 points and seven games remaining, followed by Charlotte in fifth with 72 points and ten games to play. Augusta is in sixth with 71 points and nine games to play, with the top five teams making the post-season.

Of all the remaining teams, South Carolina has the least games remaining and will play five of its remaining seven contests on the road. Three of those will be in Augusta against the Lynx, giving both teams a chance to control its own playoff destiny. The Lynx will also play the Checkers twice over the remaining schedule, once in Charlotte and once in Augusta.

Augusta has five of its nine remaining games at home: three with South Carolina, one with Charlotte, and one with the Columbia Inferno. The Lynx have road games against Pensacola, Charlotte, and a pair to end the regular season in Florida against the Everblades.

"The way the schedule sets up, we control our own destiny," said Lynx head coach and director of hockey operations Bob Ferguson on the Lynx Radio Hour at Indigo Joe's Monday night. "Four of our five games left against the two teams directly in front of us are at home. We need to take advantage of that."

The Lynx are coming off a tough weekend series with the Texas Wildcatters which the two teams split. Augusta goaltender Dave McKee recorded his first pro shutout with 42 saves on Saturday night and moving into a tie in the team record books by recording his 27th victory of the year, a mark set by Judd Lambert back in the 1999-00 season.

Augusta also received a boost offensively with the return of Garett Bembridge to the lineup in time for last weekend's games as well. The 6-0, 190-pound right wing posted two goals on the weekend, including Saturday's game winner.

The Stingrays come to Augusta Thursday night, followed by a visit from the Checkers Friday night. Both games face off at 7:35 pm, with tickets on sale now by calling the Lynx office at (706) 724-4ICE. Seats are also available through all TicketMaster locations and on line at www.TicketMaster.com. Come down and cheer your Lynx on to victory!
