Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (March 21, 2007) - Despite coming back from a two-goal deficit, the Trenton Titans could not fight their way to a win in a 4-3 loss to the Johnstown Chiefs in front of 2,381 at the Sovereign Bank Arena on Wednesday.
With the Chiefs leading 2-0 in the first, the Titans struck with a power play goal from Benoit Mondou, his 20th of the season, sinking Mark Pandolfo' s cross-crease feed 17:07 into the contest.
Trenton then tied it up at 7:02 of the second frame when Les Haggett completed a 3-on-2 set up by Pandolfo and Mondou for his 19th of the year.
The Chiefs struck back, putting the game out of reach when Gus Katsuras's slap shot snuck by Naumenko and trickled past the goal line with 2:18 left until the second intermission. Dmitri Tarabrin made it 4-2 for Johnstown with a wrister from the slot at 8:04 of the final period that proved to be the game-winner.
Trenton got back to within one with under six minutes left in the game when Scott Bertoli tipped Tony Zancanaro's shot under the leg pad of Cey.
Johnstown struck just sixty-two seconds into the game as they took the opening face-off into the Trenton zone and never gave up possession before Zybenk Hrdel beat Naumenko with a point-blank one-timer. Maxime Boisclair gave the Chiefs their first two-goal lead at 12:02 later in the period.
The Titans were 1-for-6 on the power play and a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
