Dayton Bombers News Release

Toledo, OH - The Dayton Bombers defeated the Toledo Storm 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Sports Arena in Toledo, Ohio. The win now brings the Bombers within one point of the first place Cincinnati Cyclones in the North Division standings.

Rookie Jeffrey Hristovski (1) woke up the Bombers offense by picking up his first career professional goal just 2:08 into the hockey game when he tapped home a loose puck on the crease of Storm starter Logan Koopmans (29 saves, Loss) to give the Bombers a 1-0 lead. Toledo would answer back late in the first and tie the game with under two minutes remaining in the period when Chris Blight slid one through the pads of Bombers starter Terry Denike (31 saves, Win).

Early in the second period, leading scorer Yannick Tifu (25) gave the Bombers a 2-1 lead by knocking a bouncing puck out of the air and into the back of the net at the 4:48 mark on the power play. Brent Walton (23) followed suit at the 11:14 mark when he knocked the water bottle of Koopmans' net with a perfect wrist shot to make it 3-1. Less than two minutes later, Matt Herneisen (15) would eventually receive credit for the Bombers 4th goal of the game when a shot from the boards hit Koopmans and a number of players sticks as well, then went straight up into the air and landed behind the goal line to give the Bombers a three goal lead at the 13:56 mark. For the second consecutive game, a three goal second period allowed the Bombers to take the lead to the locker room after 40 minutes of play.

The Bombers put any thoughts of a comeback to rest for Toledo within the first five minutes of the third period. That's when Joe Cullen fed Brent Walton with a perfect pass in the slot, Walton (24) then one-timed the puck right through Koopmans' five-hole to give the Bombers a commanding 5-1 lead. Although the Storm did not go quietly by generating 16 shots on goal in the third, Denike had no trouble at all and stopped all 16 in the period and 31 of 32 in the game to give the Bombers their first win of the season in Toledo and a 5-1 victory. The Bombers are now 5-4-1 vs. Toledo this season and increase their lead over the Storm for second place in the North Division to four points.

The Bombers return to the Nutter Center this Friday, March 23, to take on the Johnstown Chiefs at 7:00 p.m. Friday's game will be another Columbus Blue Jackets night. Stinger, the Blue Jackets mascot and the PEPSI Promotional Team will be on hand to give away prizes and entertain the fans.
