Lynx get Lang; lose Hynes, Blanchard
March 22, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
Augusta, GA - With a very important stretch of games on the horizon this weekend, the Augusta Lynx shuffled the deck yesterday with a bevy of roster moves.
Perhaps the biggest boost for the team is the return of team captain and leading scorer Ryan Lang from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. While with the P-Bruins, the Regina, Saskatchewan native saw action in seven games, posting a goal and two assists on 13 shots and 6 minutes in penalties. His return to the lineup brings with it 23 goals and 65 points in 52 games, plus the energy and leadership that earned him the captain's "C" last season.
On the other side of the coin, however, the Lynx will be without forward Shane Hynes and defenseman Sean Blanchard, who have both been recalled to the AHL's Portland Pirates.
Blanchard returns for his second appearance with Portland this year, playing in one game earlier this month with no points and five shots on goal. He currently sits third on the Lynx in scoring with 47 points and 33 assists and is fourth overall among ECHL defensemen in points.
Hynes' 45 points rank him right behind Blanchard on the team and seventh among ECHL rookies in scoring. His 17 goals rank him fifth overall on the team in that category, and eight of his goals have come on the power play, tying him for second with the Lynx.
The Lynx have also activated goaltender Nathan Marsters and forward Ryan Petz from the injured reserve list while moving forward Brian Passmore to the 3-Day IR. With the activation of Marsters the team released goaltender Curtis Ryser.
Augusta takes to the ice against the South Carolina Stingrays in a critical playoff matchup tonight at 7:35 pm at the James Brown Arena. Tickets are on sale at the arena box office and are $18, $15, and $11, with discounts available for students, seniors, and military personnel. Radio coverage begins one half-hour before faceoff on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
