Johnstown Chiefs News Release
Trenton, NJ (March 21, 2007) - The Johnstown Chiefs defeated the Trenton Titans on Wednesday night by a score of 4-3 at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey.
Johnstown got on the board just 62 seconds into the game, when Gus Katsuras fed a pass out to Zbynek Hrdel from behind the goal line, and Hrdel beat Trenton goaltender Gregg Naumenko through the legs to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead. Eleven minutes later, Maxime Boisclair made it 2-0 when he broke down the left wing and fired a slap shot past Naumenko at 12:02 of the first period. Trenton would cut the Chiefs' lead to one when Benoit Mondou hammered a pass from Mark Pandolfo past Chiefs goaltender Morgan Cey with Trenton on the power play at 17:07.
Les Haggett would tie the game at two-apiece for Trenton at the 7:02 mark of the second period, taking a goal-mouth feed from Mark Pandolfo and snapping it past Cey. Just over ten minutes later, Gus Katsuras stole a loose puck at center ice and fired a shot that Naumenko initially stopped, but not well enough, as the puck trickled over the goal line at 17:42 of the second period.
Johnstown would increase its lead to two when Dmitri Tarabrin blasted a shot past Naumenko at 8:04 of the third period. Trenton would pull within one on a third-period goal from Scott Bertoli at 14:39 of the third, but Morgan Cey stood tall in the Chiefs net, making 14 third-period saves to earn the win.
The Chiefs return home next Sunday, March 25, at 3:00 p.m. when they take on the Dayton Bombers. The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a free team photo! Great seats are still available and can be purchased at the box office or by calling (814) 536-5156 or 1 (800) CHF-TIXX.
