LumberKings Split Doubleheader

April 23, 2004 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Clinton LumberKings News Release

The LumberKings sent out Matt Lorenzo, the man who has established himself as Clinton's ace in the early weeks of this season, and he was once again very good, going four and holding Cedar Rapids to two runs on five hits and a walk. He struck out seven. Joldy Watts went the final three, and gave up a run on two hits, striking out six without issuing a walk. Each pitcher gave up one long ball.

The lineup, which managed only three base hits all night, didn't get on the board until the bottom of the seventh when third baseman Emerson Frostad belted a two-run homer that delivered Larry Grayson, who had tripled. Andrew Wishy singled in three at-bats for the L-Kings' only other base hit.

GAME #2: @ Clinton 3, Cedar Rapids 2

Jesse Chavez was tremendous in his fourth appearance of the year, holding the opposition to a run on five hits and two walks in five innings of work during which he set down four on strikes. Gerald Smiley gave up a run on one hit, fanning four in two innings of relief.

Cody Clark had an RBI triple in two at-bats while both Frostad and Ian Kinsler doubled and walked in three plate apperances.
