
Cougars lose to Peoria, 7 - 2

Peoria, IL â The Kane County Cougars were only able to manage a season low two hits and lost to the Peoria Chiefs by a final score of 7 â 2 at O'Brien Field. The Cougars struck out 12 times while the Chiefs salvaged a split of the four game series.
The Chiefs got on the board first in their first at bat when Sal Frisella scored from first on a double in the left field corner by Terry Evans to give the Chiefs an early 1 â 0 lead. Peoria took a 2 â 0 lead after three innings thanks to a two out single from Cody Haerther scoring Millko Jaramillo from second. The Chiefs scored four more runs in the bottom of the fifth with the help of an infield error to make it a 6 â 0 game.
The Chiefs made it a 7 â 0 game in the bottom of the sixth inning when Matt Pagnozzi scored from third on a two out single from Haerther. The Cougars had the bases loaded with no one outs in the top of the seventh and scored two runs on two wild pitches by the Chiefs Brandon DeJaynes. DeJaynes ended up striking out the side but the shutout was spoiled. DeJaynes ended up with eight strikeouts teaming with Chiefs starter Mark Michael in keeping the Cougars off balance through out the night. Steve Bondurant took the loss to fall to (2 â 2). The Cougars remain tied for first place in the Western division of the Midwest League standings as Cedar Rapids lost to Clinton 4 â 3.
The Cougars will now travel to Cedar Rapids to face the Kernels for a short two game series. Brad Knox (1- 0) will go to the mound looking for his second straight win while the Kernels will counter with Chris Hunter in the 5:00 game. Knox leads the Midwest League in strikeouts with 25 in 19.0 innings pitched.
