April 23, 2004 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release
Appleton, WI â The Burlington Bees (6-8) scoreless streak against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (6-8) reached 37 innings, but the Bees had enough offense to get a split of tonight's double-header at Fox Cities Stadium. The Rattlers won the first game 4-0 while the Bees captured game two 3-1. The Rattlers lead the series 2-1.
The Rattlers pitched their fourth consecutive shutout against the Bees in game one. LH Ryan Feieranbend (2-1) went the distance and allowed just four hits for the win. RH Chris Goodman (0-1) pitched well in his Bees debut, but suffered the loss. He allowed one unearned run in 3.1 innings on just one hit. The Bees committed a season-high four errors in the game which led to three of the four Rattler runs being unearned. LH John Gragg finished the final 2.2 innings in relief and allowed four hits and struck out one.
In the nightcap, the Rattlers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a triple by Josh Womack and a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Dutton. That's all starter Jake Mullis allowed through four innings of work. The Bees tied the score and ended the long scoreless streak that had extended over six games in the top of the second. Kila Kaaihue singled, went to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a two-out double by Luis Gonzalez.
The Bees took the lead in the fourth on a solo homer by Kaaihue, his first of the year, against Rattlers' reliever Juan Ovalles. Walter Sevilla added a solo homer in the fifth, the first of his career, to complete the scoring. Ovalles (1-1) suffered the loss after starter Kenly Chang allowed one run in three innings. Bryan Heaston finished the final two innings.
Mullis didn't qualify for the win, so reliever Dusty Dossett (1-0) picked up the victory with three scoreless innings to finish the game. Dossett allowed one hit in the seventh, but the runner was quickly erased on a double play. Dossett struck out two and faced the minimum in his three innings pitched.
The Bees and Rattlers will finish this series tomorrow night at 6:35 at Fox Cities Stadium. LH Dusty Hughes (2-0, 0.60) will pitch for the Bees against RH Nibaldo Acosta (0-2, 2.40) for the Rattlers. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 6:15.
