Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings, in conjunction with the Seattle Mariners have announced the addition of catcher Israel Nunez to the 25-man roster. Nunez joins Clinton's 25-man roster from triple-A Tacoma, taking the place of catcher Juan Fuentes, who has been placed on the disabled list.

Nunez, 23, played in just one game with the Rainiers this season, going 1-for-3 on April 19 against Sacramento. Signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Mariners in 2005, Nunez played all of 2008 with Wisconsin of the Midwest League, hitting .224 with eight doubles, a home run and 16 RBI in 59 games. He split 2007 between Peoria (AZL), Wisconsin and Tacoma.

Fuentes left Wednesday night's game against Fort Wayne after a third-inning RBI single. In eight games with the LumberKings this year, he hit .200 with a triple and three RBI.

The move gives the LumberKings a total of 25 active players with two currently on the disabled list. Nunez is expected to join the club tonight as they take on Fort Wayne. He has not yet selected a number.

The LumberKings take on the Fort Wayne TinCaps tonight at Alliant Energy Field, first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. Listen to the game on AM 1390 KCLN in Clinton or live on the web at www.kcln.com.
