Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

The Quad Cities River Bandits made it six wins in a row on Thursday night, scoring four unanswered runs to snatch a 4-2 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks at Modern Woodmen Park.

Quad Cities (12-7) got three RBI from Osvaldo Morales and another save from Casey Mulligan, as both players moved into ties for the league lead in those respective categories. South Bend (8-12) led 2-0 half way home before the Bandits took over in the middle innings.

The Silver Hawks scored a run in the third and a run in the fifth to take the lead, and starter Wade Miley faced just one batter over the minimum through his first four innings of work.

But Quad Cities got to Miley in the middle innings. After a one-out walk to Roberto Espinoza in the fifth, Jon Edwards smoked a double to the gap in left-center that brought the runner home all the way from first base.

In the sixth, Niko Vasquez drew the free pass with one away and moved to second on a wild pitch. Paul Cruz singled him to third, and took second on a heads-up baserunning play after the throw from the outfield came to the plate. That left men at second and third with one out, and both runners were able to score on a single by Morales that catapulted the River Bandits to a 3-2 lead.

A Vasquez walk started another rally in the eighth and the runner moved to third after a sacrifice bunt and an error. That set the stage for Morales to drive in his third run of the night - and 20th of the season - on a chopper down the third base line that stretched the advantage to 4-2.

Casey Mulligan did the rest, locking down a 1-2-3 ninth inning with a pair of strikeouts. The 21-year-old from California notched his sixth save of the year in the process, and has put together eight hitless appearances in nine outings this season.

Gary Daley (2-0) earned the win with a solid relief outing, striking out four and holding the Silver Hawks to just one run over 3.1 frames despite issuing four walks and yielding three hits. Starter George Brown threw four one-run innings without figuring into the decision.

Miley (0-1) suffered the tough-luck loss despite pitching well. The 22-year-old southpaw was touched for three runs on seven hits over 6.1 frames.

UP NEXT: The homestand concludes on Friday with a Baseball Air Freshener Giveaway courtesy of Midas and a post-game fireworks extravaganza on a Fireworks Friday! The River Bandits will then hit the road for six games against the Clinton LumberKings and Great Lakes Loons before returning to Modern Woodmen Park for another Fireworks Friday on May 8.
