Great Lakes Loons News Release

APPLETON, WI - Five was the magic number for the Great Lakes Loons Thursday night in a 9-6 victory over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The Loons struck for five first inning runs, and second baseman Jaime Pedroza recorded the first five-hit game in team history, notching a home run, double, three singles and three RBIs.

The Loons scored five in the first. Pedroza drove in the first run with a double. He scored on a run-producing single by Kyle Russell. Russell and Tony Delmonico later scored on a triple by Travis Vetters. Matt Wallach plated the Loons' fifth run with a double.

The Loons never trailed, but the Rattlers did pull to within one twice, at 5-4 and 6-5.

Then in the eighth, the Loons extended their lead with a three-run inning. Dee Gordon tripled home Parker Dalton, then waltzed home on a Pedroza's two-run blast, his fifth hit of the game.

Justin Miller (2-1) allowed three earned runs over 5 1/3 innings for the win. Javy Guerra retired all five batters he faced for his sixth save of the season.

Delmonico chipped in three hits for the Loons.

The Rattlers were led offensively by Brock Kjeldgaard, who homered and doubled twice.

The two teams combined for four errors (three on Wisconsin) and of the 15 runs scored, seven were unearned.

The Loons conclude their three game series in Appleton Friday. Game time is 7:35pm ET. The game will be carried live on ESPN 100.9-FM.

Right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (0-2) will start for the Loons opposite right-hander Michael Bowman (0-1).
