Clinton LumberKings News Release

Clinton, IA - The Clinton LumberKings nearly capped off another come-from-behind victory Saturday night but came up shy in an 8-6 11-inning loss to the Peoria Chiefs. In front of 1,262 fans, Clinton's third try at another wild rally in a one week span finally came up short.

Clinton jumped in front with one run in the first against lefty Rob Kaminsky. Corey Simpson drilled a one-out triple to right, and Jack Reinheimer hit his first of three run-scoring singles, putting the L'Kings up 1-0.

L'Kings starter Eddie Campbell flirted with danger in the first and third innings, but managed to put up zeroes until the fourth. Campbell had a string of 9 1/3 scoreless innings dating back to his most recent start Monday in Burlington, but Matthew Young snapped that streak with a two-out solo home run in the fourth.

Clinton (18-16) answered with a run of their own in the home half, thanks to two Peoria errors in the inning. The LumberKings loaded the bases with one out, before Martin Peguero - who was just activated off of the 7-day DL - scored Tyler O'Neill from third on a fielder's choice.

The Clinton 2-1 lead was short-lived, however. Peoria put up five runs in the top of the fifth inning, and Campbell departed after recording only one out in the frame. The Chiefs sent 10 men to the plate in the inning, and got four RBI singles, grabbing their first lead of the night, 6-2.

Clinton's resiliency shined bright again against Peoria's bullpen, rallying to tie the game at six after eight innings. The L'Kings scored three runs in the sixth behind four straight two-out singles, the last two by Simpson and Reinheimer which both brought home runners. Reinheimer capped off his 3-for-6 night with a game-tying, two-out RBI single in the eighth, but was stranded at second after Austin Wilson walked and an O'Neill strikeout.

The game remained tied until the top of the 11th . Peoria recorded three hits and one walk against Clinton closer Emilio Pagan (1-1), the last being the go-ahead two-run double by Ronald Castillo off the wall in left-center.

Wilson singled leading off the bottom half, but Justin Seager popped out to second, and Joe DeCarlo and Zach Shank both struck out looking to end the game.

The loss snapped Clinton's three-game winning streak, and the L'Kings are now 2-4 in extra-inning contests. In games decided in 11 innings, Clinton has an 0-3 record.

The LumberKings, along with every other Midwest League team, have the day off tomorrow for Mother's Day.

Clinton continues their current homestand Monday night, opening a three-game set with the Burlington Bees. Right- hander Carlos Misell (4-2) will start for Clinton. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM CT at Ashford University Field.
