
Hot Rods Accelerate Past Captains 6-3

(Eastlake, OH)- Ariel Soriano laced a two-run double to left field in the eighth inning and that fueled the Hot Rods to a 6-3 win over the Captains on Saturday Night. Bowling Green added another run in the inning on a wild pitch. The Hot Rods salvage the three game set with the win.
Bowling Green (16-19) took the lead in the top of the second inning. Ariel Soriano reached on a bunt single with one out. Yoel Araujo promptly launched a two run homer onto the grass in left center field and the score was 2-0 Hot Rods.
Lake County (11-25) tied the ballgame in the bottom of the third inning Cody Ferrell started the inning with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Clint Frazier then doubled home Ferrell and the score was 2-1. Frazier came around to score on an error and the score was tied at 3-3.
Paul Hendrix homered to right field in the bottom of the fifth inning and the Captains led 3-2. Hendrix has homered in back-to-back games and has hit four big flys in his last seven games. The Hot Rods tied the game in the top of the seventh inning. Ty Young doubled with one out, and then with two outs, Alexander Simon blooped a single to right field and the score was evened at 3-3.
RHP Robbie Aviles (0-1) started for Lake County and did not get a decision. Aviles pitched six innings and allowed five hits, two earned runs, two walks and five strikouts. Aviles allowed the homer to Araujo. Kerry Doane (0-1) took the loss. Doane pitched three innings and allowed four hits and four runs. Three of the four runs were earned. Doane walked two.
LHP Blake Snell (2-2) started for Bowling Green and did not factor in the decision. Snell pitched six innings and allowed three runs, two were earned, he walked one and fanned nine. Snell allowed the homer to Hendrix. Brad Schreiber (1-2) pitched three innings and earned the win. Schreiber pitched three innings and did not allow a run or a hit. Schreiber struck out two.
The Captains will enjoy an off day on Sunday and will travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana on Monday morning to open a three game series with the TinCaps. Lake County will start RHP Dace Kime (0-5, 8.06) and Fort Wayne will counter with LHP Payton Baskette (0-1, 3.54). First Pitch is at 7:05 PM.
