
Chiefs Win 8-6 in 11 Saturday

CLINTON, IA- The Peoria Chiefs let one lead slip away but they scored two runs in the top of the 11th inning for an 8-6 Saturday night victory over the Clinton LumberKings. The win moves the Chiefs back into second place in the Western Division at 19-15 at the half-way mark of the first half.
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, the Chiefs tied the game on a two-out home run by Matthew Young. The homer was Young's third of the season and the Chiefs first as a team since last Saturday. Clinton regained the lead on a single, error by pitcher Rob Kaminsky and a bad throw on a double play in the bottom of the inning.
The Chiefs knocked Eddie Campbell from the game and took the lead in the fifth. With two on and nobody out, Carson Kelly singled to left to tie the game as C.J. McElroy scored. Ronald Castillo doubled home Juan Herrera for a 3-2 lead and Kenny Peoples-Walls singled in Kelly. After a walk loaded the bases the Chiefs made it 6-2 with consecutive run-scoring singles from Young and Mason Katz. Clinton got out of the inning when reliever Tommy Burns got Michael Schulze to line into a double play to first base.
Kaminsky departed in the fifth with two on base by Jhonny Polanco escaped the jam with a pop up and strikeout. The Chiefs committed three errors in the sixth and Polanco allowed three hits as Clinton got to within a run at 6-5. Chase Brookshire took over mid-inning and got out of the inning with a strikeout.
In the eight, Clinton got a single from Ian Miller and a stolen base against Zach Loraine. Jack Reinheimer singled home Miller to tie the game with two outs.
Clinton's closer Emilio Pagan took over in the top of the 11th with the game tied 6-6. McElroy led off with an infield single and Herrera worked a walk. Kelly singled to left to load the bases and Castillo put the Chiefs on top 8-6 with a double off the left-field wall. Pagan got back-to-back strikeouts before Rafael Pineda escaped the inning. Clinton got a lead off single in the bottom of the 11th but Chris Thomas struck out the final two to end the game.
Kaminsky allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits over a career-high four 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked three in the no-decision. Polanco allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits over 1 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Brookshire allowed one hit on two strikeouts over 1 1/3 shutout innings. Loraine allowed one run on two hits and two walks over two innings with three strikeouts. Kevin Herget (2-1) retired all three batters he faced with two strikeouts to earn the win. Thomas got the save with one shutout inning, one hit allowed and two strikeouts.
