Great Lakes Loons News Release

SOUTH BEND, IN - Friday night, the Great Lakes Loons had little problem getting runners on base. The challenge, however, was bringing enough of them home. In the longest nine-inning game of the season (3:44), the Loons had at least one runner on base in every inning but stranded 17 in a 9-7 loss to the South Bend Silver Hawks.

The 17 men left on base sets a franchise record for a nine-inning game. The Loons stranded the bases loaded in the sixth, left two men on six times, and stranded at least one runner in every stanza.

The Loons (16-19) out-hit South Bend (19-16) in the game, 14-12, and earned nine walks. Newcomer Josmar Cordero led the parade with four hits. Paul Hoenecke recorded three. Jacob Scavuzzo notched two and had a team-high four RBIs. All but one player had at least one hit.

Loons starter Luis Chirinos (2-3) labored during four unspectacular innings, allowing four runs and eight hits. South Bend scored three off Chirinos in the first inning and never trailed in the game. Four Silver Hawks players recorded two hits and eight of the nine starters had at least one hit.

The Loons scored the final six runs of the game over the final three innings to pull to within two. The Loons left two on base in the ninth, including a potential tying run.

Adam Miller (3-0) frequently worked from the stretch but managed to keep the Loons off the scoreboard over five inning innings.

The Loons and Silver Hawks wrap up their three-game series Saturday night at 7:05pm. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 100.9-FM and ESPN1009.com. Right-hander Greg Harris (2-3, 5.33 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Loons. His mound opponent will be righty Braden Shipley (1-2, 3.63).

The Great Lakes Loons are an eighth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. For tickets and more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com, or call 989-837-BALL.
