Dayton Dragons News Release

Lansing, MI - The Dayton Dragons had hoped the troubles they faced in West Michigan at Fifth Third Ballpark stayed there as the team moved on to Oldsmobile Park in Lansing to open a two game series with the Lansing Lugnuts. Dayton was not able to avoid its second straight loss on the road trip as the Lugnuts pounded out 13 hits and doubled up the Dragons in the opening game of the series by a 10-5 score.

The Lugnuts got on the board in the bottom of the first inning putting together a two out rally picking up a run for a 1-0 advantage. Travis Snider hit took a Jordan Smith (LP, 9-8) offering high off the wall in left center for a two base hit. Jonathan Jaspe followed with a bloop single to left center scoring Snider from second base to jump out to the early lead.

Lansing added to the total with three in the bottom half of the second and one more in the third. Brian Pettway led off the second with a solo homer to right field. His 11th of the season made it 2-0. Matt Lane followed with a double and Paul Franko reached behind Lane with a walk for first and second with none out. Jonathan Diaz singled home Lane and Chris Emanuelle's RBI ground out scored Franko. In the third inning Lansing opened the inning with back-to-back singles by Jaspe and Sean Shoffit. With one down, Lane got home the fourth Lugnuts run of the night with a SAC fly to left.

The Dragons got on the board in the top of the third inning, picking up three runs with the long ball. With one down and Logan Parker at first, Drew Stubbs blasted a Nate Starner (WP, 12-9) pitch off the scoreboard in centerfield for his 11th homer of the season and Dayton cut the lead in half at 4-2. Juan Francisco made it a one run game with his MWL leading 24th home run over the lawn section in right. The back-to-back homers cut the lead to 4-3 before Lansing picked up one in the bottom of the third to go back up by two at 5-3.

Lansing added another pair of runs in the fourth inning to open the lead to 7-3 and in the process chase Smith from the game. After retiring Raul Barron to open the frame, Smith walked Diaz and hit Emanuelle with a pitch to place runners at first and second. Dan Donaldson came in from the Dayton pen but was not much relief initially. After recording the second out of the inning on a fly out to center hit gave up an RBI single to Jaspe, walked Shoffit to load the bases and then walked Brian Pettway to force home a run.

Dayton fought back off Starner and once again pulled to within two runs at 7-5. Stubbs opened the top of the sixth with a base hit and went first to third on Francisco's single. Po-Hsuan Keng (ND) relieved Starner and was greeted by Carson Kainer who continued his hot month of August with an RBI double into the left field corner, scoring Stubbs and moving Francisco to third. Jason Louwsma got the second run of the inning home on a ground ball to third for his 43rd RBI of the season.

Snider became the first MWL hitter to reach 90+ RBIs on the season when he took a Donaldson delivery onto the lawn section in right center for his 15 th home run and his 90th and 91st runs batted in, with the two run Johnson in the home half of the sixth to run the lead back to four at 9-5. Ramon Geronimo (ND), who replaced Donaldson in the sixth inning, gave up the final run of the night to the Lugnuts on an RBI double by Diaz that scored Raul Barron.

The Dragons and Lugnuts wrap up the two game series on Wednesday night with a 7:05 PM first pitch. 1410 ESPN Radio will carry the game live beginning with the Dragons Pre Game Show at 6:30 PM. All Dragons games in 2007 are also streamed live on the internet at www.daytondragons.com via All In Broadcasting. RHP Anthony Gressick (5-7, 4.55 ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Dragons.
