Newton is Newest Walk-Off Hero for Whitecaps

COMSTOCK PARK - Jordan Newton delivered a walk-off, two run single in the bottom of the seventh and final inning as the Whitecaps rallied past Fort Wayne, 7-6. It was the fourth time in the last five games that West Michigan has won in walk-off fashion.

Newton went 4-for-4 with three RBI in the game.

Jonah Nickerson fell short in a bid for his third complete game of the season for the Whitecaps when he allowed three runs to give the Wizards a 6-4 lead in the top of the seventh.

Phil Napolitan recorded the final two Fort Wayne outs of the seventh and earned a victory for his third consecutive appearance.

Eric Sogard went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI for Fort Wayne.

The Whitecaps are 9-0 against the Wizards at Fifth Third Ballpark this season.

West Michigan held a 4-0 lead after two innings.
