CLINTON, IA -- Steve Richard pitched five scoreless innings and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the Clinton LumberKings 4-2 Tuesday night at Alliant Energy Field. Calvin Beamon paced the offense with three hits, three stolen bases, and two runs scored as the Rattlers won their third consecutive game.

Wisconsin (27-36 second half, 49-82 overall) scored quickly. Beamon started the game with a single and promptly stole second base. Kuo Hui Lo singled to right and Beamon beat the throw to the plate for a 1-0 lead.

The Rattlers tacked on another run in the third. The LumberKings could not turn an inning-ending double play and Lo scored from third base.

Wisconsin added a pair of runs in the fifth. Guy Welsh drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run and Joe White singled in the other run for a 4-0 advantage.

Richard allowed four hits, walked one, and struck out a pair over his five scoreless innings of work. The bullpen took over from there. Keith Renaud came on in the sixth inning and worked two scoreless frames.

The LumberKings (26-38, 67-64) got on the board in the bottom of the eighth inning against Justin Souza. Mauro Gomez drove in the first Clinton run with a one-out, RBI double. One out later, Chris Kemp singled in Gomez to cut the Rattler lead to 4-2.

The Rattlers turned to Mike Wagner in the bottom of the ninth inning to close out the LumberKings. He recorded a 1-2-3 frame for his second save.

Tuesday was the second consecutive start in which Richard tossed five scoreless innings. On August 23 against Peoria, Richard picked up the win with five hitless and scoreless innings at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Richard's scoreless streak is at 11-1/3 innings.

Game two of the series is Wednesday night. Ricky Orta (4-6, 4.78) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Beau Jones (3-1, 2.25) is set to start for the LumberKings. Game time is 6:00pm.
