LOUISVILLE, Ky - The first Monday home game of the season featured RHP Josh Smith (2-0, 0.00) on the mound for the Louisville Bats (4-5) and LHP Ryan Merritt (0-2, 4.22) for the Columbus Clippers (4-6). The Bats scored a run in the bottom of the fifth and made it stand up in a 1-0 win, their second victory in a row.

The first four innings saw zero hits and two runners left on base for Louisville and three hits and two runners left on base for Columbus, but no runs for either team.

Louisville struck in the bottom of the fifth. DH Jermaine Curtis was hit by a pitch and then scored three batters later when 2B Carlos Triunfel placed an infield single between second base and shortstop. It was Triunfel's fourth RBI of the season.

Along with Smith, RHPs Ryan Mattheus and Steve Delabar (1) shut the door, giving the Bats their fourth win of the season and the third against Columbus.

Smith pitched six innings, allowing four hits and a walk, striking out three. He picked up his second win of the season, with both coming against Columbus.

Tomorrow at 7:05 p.m., the Bats will send RHP Robert Stephenson (0-1, 1.50) to the hill. The Clippers will counter with RHP Will Roberts (0-1, 6.75).
