Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
Moosic, Pa. - The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) dropped a 9-6 decision to the Buffalo Bisons on Monday night at PNC Field. Buffalo (5-7) snapped a three-game slide by scoring three in the ninth. SWB fell to 7-4.
James Pazos (1-1) shouldered the loss after he allowed a run on three hits over 2.1 innings in relief. Despite a blown save, Chad Girodo (2-0) picked up the win. The left-hander allowed a run on two hits in his only inning of work. Ryan Tepera worked around two walks for a scoreless ninth and his first save.
Eight of the Bisons' 15 hits went for extras, including six doubles. Casey Kotchman homered in the second inning off starter Kyle Haynes to tie the score at 1-1. Junior Lake followed with a two-baser and scored on a single by Matt Dominguez for a 2-1 lead.
Chris Parmelee doubled and scored the tying run on a Pete Kozma single in the home half of the second. Buffalo claimed a 5-2 lead with a three-run third that was highlight by a two-run shot from Junior Lake.
Nick Swisher launched his first home run of the season out to right in the fourth frame, cutting the deficit to 5-3. After a Bisons run in the fifth, Kozma and Jonathan Diaz combined for a pair of runs. Kozma doubled and scored on Diaz's triple. Ben Gamel brought in Diaz with a sacrifice fly to center and moved the RailRiders within one at 6-5.
Slade Heathcott helped tie the game at six in the eighth by bunting his way aboard. Heathcott then stole second and moved to third on a throwing error by catcher A.J. Jimenez. Swisher scored Heathcott on a sac fly to center.
Buffalo put the game out of reach in the ninth by combining for four doubles off Pazos and Diego Moreno.
The RailRiders got solid production from Gamel who reached four times and finished 3-for-3. Diaz also posted three hits. Kozma extended his hitting streak to five games with a 2-for-4 night and Aaron Judge tallied a run-scoring double in the first.
