Toledo Mud Hens News Release
After having their three game winning streak snapped in the final game of the Hens' four game set with Lousiville, Toledo looked to get back to their winning ways in Indianapolis Monday night. Taking the hill for Toledo was Matt Boyd, making his third start of the young campaign. The lefty came into the game with a 1-1 record on the season.
The Hens offense got things rolling in the top of the third as Miguel Gonzalez struck his first double of the season to lead off the inning. Gonzalez would go first to third on a Wynton Bernard single to right and the Hens were in buisness with just one out. After Bernard swiped second, Casey McGehee singled home Gonzalez from third to take a 1-0 lead. The steal for Bernard was his third of the season, as he leads Toledo in that category. Following the single Steven Moya earned his team leading eighth RBI of the season, as Bernard crossed home thanks to a fielding error by first baseman Josh Bell as the lead extended to 2-0.
Indianapolis' Jameson Taillon was chased out of the game after just 4 1/3 innings, as he surrendered two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Throwing in Tallion's relief for the Indians was a familiar face, as former Mud Hen Guido Knudson came on to keep the bats silent in 2.2 innings of relief, striking out four and picking up the win.
Boyd was relieved of his duties in the sixth after a double from Indy's Josh Bell brought home Jung Ho Kang and Jason Rogers to tie the game at 2-2. Boyd left with a no decision, tossing 5.0 innings, as he scattered three runs on six hits with four strikeouts. Indy padded their lead in the sixth off Preston Guilmet, as Jacob Stallings singled home Josh Bell and Willy Garcia to make the score 4-2 Indians, where it would stand.
With their backs against the wall, Lloyd McClendon's squad was unable to muster up a comeback off the Indians' bullpen, falling in game one of the three game set. The first place Mud Hens were glad to see their All-Star SS Dixon Machado back in the lineup on Monday after missing the previous two games with a hamstring injury. The Hens send right hander Buck Farmer to the hill on Tuesday for his first Toledo start of the season after being sent down from the Tigers on April 16th. First pitch is set for 11:05 AM in Indianapolis.
