Pigs Try for Third Straight Win

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs will look for their third straight win when they begin a two-game set with the Syracuse Chiefs on Monday night. First pitch from Coca-Cola Park is slated for 7:05 p.m.

RHP Mark Appel (1-0, 0.00) will be on the bump for the Pigs. Appel got the win on Tuesday at Rochester after tossing 5.2 shutout IP in which he allowed five hits while walking a pair and fanning five. The Stanford product was the former no. 1 overall pick of the Astros in 2013 and went a combined 10-3 with a 4.37 ERA between Corpus Christi (AA) and Fresno (AAA) in 2015.

RHP Austin Voth (0-0, 0.00) gets the ball for the Chiefs in the series opener. The right-hander got a no-decision on Wednesday vs. Buffalo when he gave up three hits while striking out six over six shutout innings in his Triple-A debut. Voth was named the Nationals Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2015 after going 6-7 with a 2.92 ERA in 28 G (27 GS) with Double-A Harrisburg. In 2013, the University of Washington product ranked second in the Pac-12 in strikeouts behind Appel (Stanford).

Pigs INF Taylor Featherston has hit safely in his last six games. In that time, the TCU product is hitting .500-1-2; 10-20 with a double, triple, a walk and four runs scored.
