Beloit Sky Carp News Release
BELOIT - A festive crowd of 1.039 fans, armed with vuvuzela's, cowbells and more, couldn't quite guide Las Paletas de Beloit over visiting Great Lakes as the Paletas fell 4-3.
It was the second of five Copa de la Diversion days at the ballpark, and for a while it appeared as though the Paletas were going to avoid Beloit's eighth straight defeat.
Trailing 2-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth, las Paletas rallied when Joe Mack singled, Tanner Allen tripled him home and Josh Zamora doubled Allen home with the tying run.
Chris Alleyne quickly un-tied the game in the top of the seventh with a two-run double against Beloit reliever Caleb Wurster. Tanner Allen tried to rally the Sky Carp with a solo homer in the ninth, but it wasn't enough to get the job done.
Sky Carp starting pitcher Gabe Bierman was simply outstanding, hurling six innings and allowing just one hit and one earned run while striking out seven Loons.
The Sky Carp and the Loons will battle in game three of the six-game series Thursday at 6:35 p.m. It's Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark, with drink specials all evening long.
The Beloit Sky Carp are the High-A Affiliate of the Miami Marlins and play their games at ABC Supply Stadium -- the heart of the Riverbend District.
