June 4, 2014 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Great Lakes Loons News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - The Midwest League announced its 2014 All-Star rosters Wednesday and three Great Lakes Loons players were named to the Eastern Division team.
Loons catcher Kyle Farmer and outfielder Joey Curletta were named as Eastern Division starter, while relief pitcher Mark Pope also earned an All-Star selection. This year's All-Star game between the Eastern and Western Divisions will be played on Tuesday, June 17 at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park.
Farmer is leading the Loons in batting average (315), RBI (33) and is tied with Curletta for the most doubles (15) in his first season in the Midwest League. He's also hit two home runs and stolen eight bases. The former University of Georgia shortstop was an 8th round pick of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2013 draft.
Curletta has been among the MWL leaders in hitting most of the season and is currently batting .311 with a team-high 70 hits and 93 total bases. He's also hit two home runs and driven in 26 runs. The Phoenix, Ariz., native was a 6th round pick of the Dodgers in the 2012 draft.
Pope, who was acquired by the Dodgers organization over the winter, has appeared in 18 games - all in relief - and is 1-0 with an 0.41 ERA. He's struck out 24 batters in 22 innings while allowing just 11 hits and eight walks. Pope is a product of Georgia Tech University.
The All-Stars team was nominated and selected by the league's managers. Andrew Graham of the host West Michigan Whitecaps will manage the Eastern Division team. Omar Lopez of Quad Cities will manage the Western Division squad.
The Great Lakes Loons are an eighth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. For tickets and more information, call 989-837-BALL or visit loons.com.
