Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, Ill. - The Midwest League has announced the rosters for the 2014 Midwest League All-Star Game, which will be held on Tuesday, June 17 and hosted by the West Michigan Whitecaps in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Four Cougars players have been named to the Western Division All-Star team: catcher Will Remillard, infielder Jordan Hankins, pitcher Jose Arias and pitcher Paul Blackburn. The first-place Cougars, a Class-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, continue to lead the 16-team Midwest League with the best record and are hoping to clinch a first half division title. The first half comes to a close on June 15.
Blackburn, announced earlier today as the Cubs' organizational Minor League Pitcher of the Month for May, is 5-1 with a 2.33 ERA and has walked just 10 batters in 10 starts this season. Remillard was named a reserve catcher for the Western Division squad. In 35 games this season, Remillard is batting .319 with 25 RBI and defensively, he has thrown out 42 percent of baserunners attempting to steal. Hankins has played in 32 games at third base, holds a .913 fielding percentage and is batting .288 with 2 home runs and 21 RBI. Arias, after missing much of last season due to injury, has been one of the top performers out of the bullpen and carries a 2.16 ERA.
Rosters from both All-Star squads are included with this release. Past Cougars who have been named Midwest League All-Stars include some notable names to baseball fans. That distinguished list includes Miguel Cabrera ('01), Adrian Gonzalez ('01), Kevin Millar ('94), Charles Johnson ('93) and Gregg Zaun ('91).
