Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Jeremy Gabryszwski set a new career high with nine strikeouts while L.B. Dantzler drove in four runs, leading the Lansing Lugnuts (28-30) to a 6-1 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks (35-23) in the series opener on Wednesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Crosby, Tex.-native Gabryszwski (Win, 4-2) allowed one unearned run in the first inning and shut down the division-leading Silver Hawks across his six innings of work, surrendering just five hits and a walk while lowering his ERA to 3.39.
Lansing took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first with RBI singles by Dantzler and Mitch Nay, and Dawel Lugo brought across a run grounding into a fielder's choice.
A three-run home run by Dantzler off of South Bend starter Hector Hernandez (Loss, 3-1) extended the Lansing lead in the fourth inning.
Lansing's Phil Kish worked a pair of scoreless frames in relief of Gabryszwski with two strikeouts.
Reliever Griffin Murphy, just hours after learning of his Midwest League All-Star selection, had two strikeouts in a scoreless ninth inning.
Altogether, the Lansing pitching staff tied a season high with 13 strikeouts.
Lugo extended his current hitting streak to 14 games with his 3-for-4 night. Catcher Jorge Saez also extended his team-leading on-base streak to 17 games, reaching on a walk in the first inning.
