Layne Somsen Rejoins Dragons

DAYTON, OHIO-The Dayton Dragons announced the following roster transactions today:

Right-handed pitcher Layne Somsen has been sent to Dayton from Bakersfield (Advanced-A, California League).

Right-handed pitcher Tony Amezcua has been assigned to the Billings roster (Rookie, Pioneer League).

The Dragons roster remains at the Midwest League limit of 25 players.

Somsen opened the 2014 season with the Dragons and was outstanding in seven relief appearances, allowing just one run (1-1, 0.87 ERA, 17 strikeouts in 10.1 innings). He was promoted to Bakersfield on April 24 and posted a 1.74 ERA over his first five outings, but struggled over his last six appearances. His record in Bakersfield was 1-2 with a 6.88 ERA and one save.

Amezcua has appeared in eight games with the Dragons out of the bullpen, going 0-2 with a 7.82 ERA.

May 31: Outfielder Jeff Gelalich placed on disabled list. Infielder Humberto Valor given unconditional release. First baseman Daniel Pigott and outfielder Jon Matthews activated from disabled list.

June 1: Outfielder Nick Benedetto assigned to Billings. Outfielder Gabriel Rosa promoted to Dayton from extended spring training.

June 3: Outfielder/infielder Sean Buckley placed on disabled list. Infielder Tanner Rahier activated from disabled list.
