Lookouts Fall Behind Early in 13-6 Loss

The Chattanooga Lookouts fell behind 11-2 in the third inning in their 13-6 loss to the Knoxville Smokies.

In the first inning, Leo Balcazar smashed a two-run home run to give the Lookouts an early 2-0 lead. Balcazar finished the game going 3-for-5 with four RBIs and is now hitting .340 this year. In the second, the Smokies put up six runs and chased off starting pitcher Jared Lyons. An inning later, Casey Optiz launched a grand slam to make it 11-2 and increase their lead to nine.

Chattanooga pulled closer with three runs in the fifth, but B.J. Murray hit a two-run homer to give them 13 runs.

In the loss, Joel Valdez went 2.2 innings with five strikeouts and only one hit allowed.

Tomorrow, Ryan Cardona takes the mound for the Lookouts on Safety Night presented by Crimestoppers and the Lipford Foundation. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m.
