July 3, 2014 - Southern League (SL1)
Chattanooga Lookouts News Release

The Chattanooga Lookouts (6-9) celebrated Independence Day with a fireworks extravaganza in front of a raucous crowd of 6,145 fans. Before the electric display began the Lookouts gave up seven unanswered runs to fall to the Birmingham Barons (8-6) by a score of 7-2.

In the first inning the home team got off to a great start when Darnell Sweeney singled one through the hole at short stop for his league-leading 100th hit. The infielder finished the night with two hits to bring his average up to .324 on the season. After a bunt single by Noel Cuevas and a fly out by Scott Schebler, Daniel Mayora singled to plate Sweeney for the team's first run of the game. O'Koyea Dickson then stepped up to the plate and hit a double off the top of the wall to increase the team's lead to 2-0.

In the third inning the Birmingham Barons offense began to get going against Lookouts' starter Raydel Sanchez (L, 1-5). Dan Black singled home Dan Wagner to bring home the team's first run of the game. An inning later they tied it up when Josh Richmond grounded into a force out to bring home Rangel Ravelo who reached earlier in the inning on a double.

Birmingham widened their lead in the fifth on back-to-back home runs by Trayce Thompson and Dan Black. They added two more runs in the sixth to make the score 7-2.

Chattanooga had a chance to score again in the bottom of the sixth when Scott Schebler barely missed a home run. The speedy outfielder turned his ball that hit off the wall into his league-leading ninth triple of the year, but ended up being stranded on third.

Tomorrow, the Lookouts embark on their second road trip of the second half when they head to Jacksonville. RHP Nick Struck (1-4, 7.80) will start for the Lookouts against the Suns' LHP Chipper Smith (2-3, 4.60).
